Central Venous Catheter Complications Video |
This three part educational video can now be ordered from the National Technical Information Service (NTIS). A five minute preview is available as a streaming video presentation. The preview features Dr. Walter Scott of FDA discussing catheter tip location. This program follows "a day in the life" of two residents as they deal with the complications associated with the use of central venous catheters (CVCs). Surgical landmarks and underlying anatomy for CVC placement are reviewed. While assessing specific patient needs, they discuss catheter selection; patient preparation and positioning; vein vs. artery differentiation; and EKG monitoring. Radiology and pathology case reviews are presented. The importance of infection control and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) use is presented, with a final note on home care.
Microsoft Media Player is required to view the preview over the web.
