The foundation of an IFSS is a highly competent, integrated workforce that performs comparable work at all levels to ensure a safe and secure human and animal food supply. This workforce is comprised of federal and state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) regulatory and laboratory professionals who oversee the safety of manufactured human food, produce, eggs, retail food, Grade “A” milk/dairy, molluscan shellfish, and animal food; consequently, the competencies required of this workforce are both vast and diverse. This is where the RLTS strategic plan comes in, creating a consistent standard of training for all IFSS regulatory and laboratory professionals.

The RLTS represents the collective efforts of IFSS partners to design and deliver training and other learning opportunities to ensure the integrated workforce has the competencies needed to perform their jobs. Given the sheer size and diversity of the IFSS workforce, we need to reimagine a more sustainable RLTS that leverages the expertise and resources of all IFSS partners (FDA and SLTT regulatory and laboratory partners, academia, and industry) to share in the responsibility for designing and delivering the training.

Introduction to the RLTS: Regulatory and Laboratory Training System

How can you get involved?

How can you get involved? We need human and animal food regulatory and laboratory subject matter experts (SMEs) to complete the build-out and validation of the National Curriculum Standard (NCS). We also need adult learning/training/instructional design SMEs to serve on advisory committees to develop national course content, design, delivery, and alignment/equivalency determination standards and policies.
